Complaining

May 26, 2010

If you find yourself complaining, stop and reflect why you are doing that.  Is there a solution to what you are complaining about or is that how you deal with challenges in your life – by complaining?  Do you see yourself as a victim?  Constantly complaining about something serves another purpose – you want people to feel sorry for you.  That kind of negativity only leads to more negativity.  That is your choice.  A more empowering choice would be to do something constructive about what you are complaining about.  Proactively find a solution to your challenges – don’t just complain and be complacent about them.  You are responsible for your life – no one else.

Life’s Challenges

April 6, 2010

You create value, meaning and fulfillment from life’s challenges.  Without challenges, there is little opportunity to learn and to grow.  Learn to look at life not as a burden but as a blessing.  It is filled with learning opportunities that when dealt with in an empowering manner, will create an empowered you.

Moments in Time

March 14, 2011

A tiny blade of grass does not make a lawn, but thousands of blades do.  One snowflake does not make a hill that is great for sledding, but millions coming down one after another do.  There is strength in numbers, like the moments in time.  We are given innumerable moments during our lifetime to do wondrous things, but they can slip by us, lost in the depths of our lives.  Take the time to savor your moments and to make the best of them as they come.  Stay present to them, not looking to the past, and not living in fear of the future.

It’s Friday!

FridayIt’s Friday!  Many people view Friday as the gateway to the weekend and are more positive because the next two days are off from work or school.  As Sunday evening comes or Monday morning, they go back to work, lethargic again until Friday, biding their time from weekend to weekend waiting for a reprieve from their dull week of work.  Work weeks do not have to be experienced like this, yet so many go through their lives dreading Mondays, loving Fridays and the weekends.  If you find yourself dreading the work week, begin to make a conscious effort to think of the positive aspects of work and focus on those–do you like your coworkers or boss?  Do you like the environment?  Do your bills get paid and does your paycheck allow you to enjoy certain things in life?  If you truly cannot stand your job, it may be time to look for another one or to find a hobby outside of work that gives you immense pleasure.  If you can’t change your circumstances, change your attitude.  Fridays come and go, and with it, your life.  Are you spending your days so focused on the weekend that you are not present for a majority of the week’s days?  There’s nothing wrong with having something to look forward to, but living for every Friday while just going through the motions is not a balanced way of living life.

Negative Emotions

Life is too short to get caught up in anger, frustration, sadness, or any of the dis-empowering negative emotions we all sometimes feel.  It’s okay to feel these feelings; what is not healthy is to experience them for a majority of time or to act them out inappropriately.  Life is about balance.  When we learn to allow our emotions to wash over us, like a wave, and not give them all of our power, we then learn that we do not have to react to life.  We have control over our thoughts, over our actions.  We will feel sad or angry or resentful sometimes because we are human.  When our emotions become dis-empowering and unhealthy forces in our lives, taking over the focus of our world, then it is time to assess what is going on and take back your power.  Your world and how you experience it are a direct reflection of your filters, your personal perspectives.  You can change the way you view the world by making a concerted effort not to focus so much on the negative emotions and negative experiences of life and begin to focus on the positive. Both the positive and negative exist in life, but it is what you focus on that makes a difference.  Life is too short to become inundated by negativity.  It does you a disservice and those around you.
